A Bird’s Nest tells the harrowing and sinister story of a young boy being abused by his father, which results in dark outcomes for the boy and those around him. He befriends Amy, a kind, bright girl from next door. The opposition in their home lives is highlighted when they are together. As the story continues, the boy suffers more abuse from his father and a burgeoning feeling of darkness hints towards the end of the story. The next time we see Amy, she is looking for her lost dog. The boy tells Amy he knows where her dog is and leads her into his hideout in the middle of the woods. He hands her a bloodied box containing her dead dog, leading her to run away from him and become lost. The heartbreaking and overbearing reality of this situation is revealed when the abused child abuses someone else, ending in the young girl’s untimely death. The final shot of this film is haunting, with both children, one dead with flowers in her hand, and the other watching her.
