When we first meet Aaron, he is alone in his apartment with a belt around his neck. He receives a call from his mother, worried about him and questioning if he is currently seeing anyone. As easy as it is to see how the main character feels, it may be equally as difficult to see what is making him feel this way or what’s going through his mind. Thanatos tells a story of a dominatrix and a depressed man who, against all odds, manage to find each other. This story explores a wide variety of complex emotions, from a depressed man having suicidal thoughts and actions, a woman stuck in her day to day life, to a brilliant display of individual ideas of love, passion, and intimacy. Aaron finally admits his feelings for this woman and their future together or apart is only left open for speculation of the audience.
